Indian leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has said that he does not want to be seen as a comeback player and is aiming for a longer run in the Indian team. After missing out on selection for three successive T20 World Cup campaigns, Bishnoi is determined to cement his place in the squad during the upcoming events.
The selectors have picked Bishnoi for the tours of Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games. He last played for India on January 28, 2026, in a T20I against New Zealand. Bishnoi will compete for a spot alongside Varun Chakaravarthy, while Axar Patel and Washington Sundar also provide spin-bowling options.
It Is Everyone’s Dream to Play in the World Cup – Ravi Bishnoi
Speaking to PTI, Ravi Bishnoi shared his thoughts on missing out on multiple T20 World Cup squads. He said that winning a World Cup is a dream for every cricketer, including him. However, he added that he is determined to make the most of opportunities in the upcoming matches.
“It is everyone’s dream to play in the World Cup. To win it. It is my dream too. Even though I have missed the World Cups, I have more opportunities. So I will try not to miss this time. I should make it count. And when you miss, it is not like suddenly someone is playing in my place. But India won the World Cup. Whoever plays in my place, they did really well.”
Despite limited opportunities, Bishnoi has built an impressive record in T20I cricket. The 24-year-old has taken 64 wickets in 44 matches at an average of 19.52 and an economy rate of 7.41.
I Have Only One Goal in Life – Ravi Bishnoi
Ravi Bishnoi credited his family and coach, Shahrukh, for helping him deal with difficult phases in his career. He said that disappointment is natural, but players must move forward quickly and stay focused on future opportunities.
“You know how good the competition is going on right now in the Indian team. It is competitive. I have only one goal in life. When I get a chance, I should be prepared and deliver myself. Then I shouldn’t have those regrets that I didn’t get that chance.”
“It is a little difficult because you want to play in the World Cup. The World Cup was at home this time. But it is sports, ups and downs are part of it. That is why we choose sports. It teaches you how to come back and how to lift yourself in this tough phase.”
“My parents are there. My coaches always stay with me. Shahrukh bhai and others. They have been like pillars to me. They always say, this time or next time. To feel bad is human. Everyone feels bad. But it shouldn’t take long to move on. That is my mindset. Because if you feel bad for a long time, it affects your performance. And you can’t focus on your game.”
Ravi Bishnoi Earns India Recall Despite Difficult IPL 2026 Campaign
Ravi Bishnoi has played one ODI for India, taking one wicket while conceding 69 runs. He also reached a major career milestone in December 2023 when he became the No. 1 bowler in the ICC Men’s T20I Rankings.
Bishnoi’s return to the Indian team was not straightforward after a difficult IPL season. The leg-spinner spent the entire second half of the tournament on the bench, with youngster Yash Raj Punja preferred ahead of him.
Despite those setbacks, the selectors included Bishnoi in the squads for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England. He was picked ahead of Kuldeep Yadav, highlighting the confidence the team management still has in his abilities.
