Punjab Kings all-rounder Shashank Singh has dismissed assault allegations made by his family’s former cook, Vipendra Singh Tomar, a day after an FIR was registered against him and his father in Bhopal on Monday, June 29. Singh claims Tomar was secretly filming their residence and sharing the visuals with outsiders before being let go from the job.

Tomar, a 31-year-old cook from Rewa, had joined the household of Singh’s father, retired Special DG of Police Shailesh Singh, in Bhopal’s Neelbad area on Thursday, June 25. He later told police he was assaulted, verbally abused, and had his phone confiscated after he tried to quit the job, leading to a case being registered under Sections 296(B), 115(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Shailesh Singh, Shashank Singh, and the family’s driver, identified as Mishra. A subsequent medical examination reportedly confirmed injury marks on Tomar’s face and body.

“All the allegations against me, including the assault charges, are completely false and baseless. I have no knowledge of this matter,” Singh said, as quoted by Republic Bharat.

Responding to the case for the first time since the FIR was filed, Singh alleged that Tomar had been secretly photographing and filming their residence and forwarding the visuals to people outside the household, which he said was the actual reason the cook was removed from the job. He also admitted that the family did not inform police immediately after asking Tomar to leave, calling it a lapse on their part, and said he has no knowledge of what happened to the cook once he exited the residence.

Police at Bhopal’s Ratibad station said the investigation into the FIR remains active, with officers examining both Tomar’s written complaint and the medical report documenting his injuries. Singh continues to be part of Punjab Kings’ squad, with the franchise, last year’s runners-up, missing out on the IPL 2026 playoffs after finishing fifth in the points table.
