The time is running against the emerging all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy as he may have to stay away from the ODIs against England as well because of the left quadricep injury. At the initial stage, the injury was considered minor, but later, as the medical procedure progressed, it revealed the seriousness of the injury.
According to the latest media reports, after missing out on the entire T20I series against Ireland, the seam bowling all-rounder could miss the ODI series against England subsequently. When he will be able to make a return with the national cricket team is yet to be disclosed.
Nitish Kumar Reddy is yet to start rehabilitation
As per the latest updates, the medical unit of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has advised Nitish Kumar Reddy to have an extended period of rest till he recovers from the injury and regains his match fitness. The ODI series against England is scheduled to start on July 14 in Birmingham, and Nitish is yet to begin his rehabilitation process.
“India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is in a race against time for the three ODIs against England starting July 14 in Birmingham… the BCCI medical team has advised the youngster an extended period of rest, and he has yet to begin his rehabilitation. He was recently ruled out of the T20Is against Ireland and England due to discomfort in his left quadricep,” Times of India reported on June 30.
Nitish Kumar Reddy has already missed out on multiple crucial matches due to the injury
Because of the injury, Nitish first missed the third ODI against Afghanistan in the home series and then the 2-match T20I series against Ireland, and is all set to miss the T20Is against England. If the reports are to be believed, then the all-rounder can make a return during the tour against Zimbabwe. Team India is scheduled to tour Zimbabwe for a multi-format white-ball series, which will start from July 23 through a 3-match T20I series.
BCCI trusted Suryansh Shedge during the Ireland tour
BCCI is yet to issue an official statement on the 23-year-old’s injury status. For the recently concluded T20I series against Ireland, Suryansh Shedge was named as the replacement for the injured Nitish.
In his absence, Suryansh made his T20I debut in Belfast in the second and final match of the tour. However, Suryansh Shedge’s performance in his debut match was nothing to be remembered about as he struggled both with the bat and ball.
If Nitish Kumar Reddy remains on the sidelines during the ODI series against England, will it be Suryansh Shedge or someone else to fill the void in the team? It will be interesting to see. The team management will have to choose the possible replacement with extra care as the team will face the hosts, England, after suffering a stunning 0-2 defeat against the Ireland cricket team.
For preparations, players are expected to reach England in two separate batches. In the first batch of players, captain Shubman Gill and wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul are likely to arrive early. The remaining part of the team can reach there by July 12.
