Denning to coach Hampshire WCSL team

Hampshire Cricket has announced Nick Denning as the head coach of their new Women’s Cricket Super League team.

Denning will lead the club into the inaugural season of the six-team competition, which begins this summer.

“It’s very exciting, new challenges get me out of bed in the morning so I’m really looking forward to getting started,” he said.

“The biggest challenge will be getting a group of players who are used to being rivals, to gel together on a cricket pitch.

Nick Denning has returned to the Ageas Bowl to coach Hampshire Cricket's Women's Cricket Super League team in the inaugural campaign

“Setting goals at this early stage is quite difficult, but the ultimate target will be to make it to Finals Day and then build on that for the following year.”

Denning has previously worked at Hampshire in the club’s youth set-up and is the current coach of Berkshire.

Earlier this month, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that the Hampshire Cricket led consortium of seven partners was one of the six hosts that will compete in the WCSL.

A name and identity for each team will be announced in due course along with further details on the format and timing of the tournament.
