Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar opened up about young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s on-field altercation during the Tri-Nation A Series. Manjrekar criticized Sooryavanshi’s actions and added that the team management should take a stance to ensure the incident serves as a learning experience for the young batter.

The incident took place after Sri Lanka A defeated India A in a Super Over. Vishen Halambage exchanged words with Sooryavanshi during the celebrations. The verbal exchange quickly escalated, with Sooryavanshi appearing to shove the Sri Lanka player before teammates and officials stepped in to defuse the situation.

Sanjay Manjrekar said that physical confrontations have no place in professional cricket, regardless of the provocation. Manjrekar said that he would have dropped Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for India A’s match against Afghanistan A as a disciplinary measure.

“If I was India A coach or manager I would have left Vaibhav Suryavanshi out for this game v AFG. Only to let him know that’s it’s not OK to get physical on the field. Whatever the provocations.”

“We will let our players to concentrate on the tournament and they should not be distracted by any collateral issues.”

The confrontation required intervention from Niroshan Dickwella, who stepped in to separate the two players after tensions escalated following Sri Lanka A’s Super Over victory. The incident quickly became a major talking point in the tournament.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Fails to Convert Another Start Against Afghanistan A

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi endured another disappointing outing with the bat during India A’s crucial match against Afghanistan A. The young opener survived an overturned duck dismissal and was later dropped in the field, but failed to make the most of the chances. He fell for 38 runs off 28 balls, hitting four fours and two sixes.

Despite getting starts in the Tri-Nation A Series, he has been unable to convert them into a big score. He recorded scores of 14, 44, 21, 38, and 39, with the youngster still searching for his first half-century of the competition.

Sooryavanshi recently earned a place in India’s senior T20I squad for the upcoming series against Ireland and England. With the selection, he broke Sachin Tendulkar’s 36-year-old record to become the youngest player ever picked in India’s senior men’s team.

The call-up came after a sensational IPL 2026 campaign. Sooryavanshi scored 776 runs in 16 matches at an outstanding strike rate of 237.31. His performances earned him multiple awards and established him as one of the biggest breakout stars of the season.
