Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could cause 'mayhem' in ODIs says Sanjay Manjrekar

Carnage in Dambulla. It is again the 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who exploited the bowlers with his out-of-the-world batting skills at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium today, on June 21, during the India A vs Sri Lanka A tri-nation ODI series final.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi breaks another T20 cricket record through his ultra-attacking batting. He has recorded the fastest half-century in List A cricket as he touched the 50-run mark in only 11 balls.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could be more destructive in ODIs

Former India cricketer, now a cricket expert, makes some interesting comments about the batter in the 50-over format. The cricket world witness who destructive Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could be in Twenty20 cricket. Sanjay Manjrekar is awestruck as he imagines the batter with the same intensity in a format where there are fielding restrictions for a larger number of overs.

“Just realised Vaibhav looks at 50-over cricket as a format where he can create even more mayhem! What with 2 fielders outside the circle for 10 overs! & not 6,” the former cricketer wrote this on his ‘X’ post on June 21 during the India A vs Sri Lanka A final match of the ODI Tri-nation series.

Another record-making day for the Bihar-born

The way the opener was handling the bowlers, he could have achieved another T20 hundred in another record-breaking feat. However, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dismissed for 94 runs off 29 balls, missing the ton by only 6 runs. He lost his wicket while he was trying to clear the ropes again. Before walking off the ground, the batters set the stage for the Indian cricket team to secure a massive total in the summit clash.

Despite the appreciation post from the cricket expert, one of his old ‘X’ posts is being recalled by cricket fans, where Manjrekar suggested that the team management drop the talent for a controversial incident.

“If I was India A coach or manager, I would have left Vaibhav Suryavanshi out for this game v AFG. Only to let him know that it’s not OK to get physical on the field. Whatever the provocations,” Sanjay Majrekar opined this on June 17.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was in a controversial situation during the tri-nation ODI series as he was involved in a heated exchange after a super over against Sri Lanka A. India lost that match to the hosts in the Super Over, despite deploying Vaibhav with the bat.

Sooryavanshi was under pressure ahead of the final

After the decisive ball of the over, when the Sri Lanka A team players were celebrating and two Indian batters were left heartbroken in the middle, the incident took place. It was unclear who ignited the incident, but as Vaibhav was on the crease, the matter captured the headlines on a broad scale.

Ahead of the final, the batter was not at his peak, as he was dismissed cheaply on multiple occasions against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A teams. The controversy had added extra pressure on him as well.

But the 15-year-old knows how to manage things and express himself through those big hits. Ahead of Team India’s tour to the United Kingdom, the revived form of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will boost the Indian cricket team’s confidence further.
