Marizanne Kapp enters history books claims 100th T20I wicket in ICC Women's T20 World Cup

A special achievement in a special match of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup event. South Africa Women’s cricket team star, Marizanne Kapp, marks her 100th T20I wicket today (June 28) against the Bangladesh Women’s cricket team at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground in London.

South Africa is currently up against Bangladesh in a must-win match. If the Proteas are able to defeat the Bangladesh women’s team today, then the pressure will be on the India Women’s cricket team, as from Group 1 of the tournament, only the top two teams will be allowed to play in the semifinals.

Marizanne Kapp’s 4 overs can be decisive for South Africa Women’s run in the Women’s T20 World Cup

As of now, Australia, India, and South Africa are in contention to book berths in the semis, but only two will be allowed. For the evening slot, it will be India Women’s against the Australia Women’s cricket team. The Indian cricket team’s future in the title race can be massively influenced by the South Africa Women’s vs Bangladesh Women’s match result.

The Women’s team of South Africa is clearly the favorite to register a win over Bangladesh. Marizanne Kapp was effective with the ball. She not only took a wicket, but also denied the Bangladeshi batters from scoring runs according to T20 cricket standards. The 4 overs of Kapp are going to take a crucial role in the game.

During the four-over spell, Marizanne Kapp claimed the wicket of the opposing team’s opener, Juairiya Ferdous. Ferdous was dismissed for a golden duck on the very first ball of the match. The Protea pacer took a wicket in four overs for only 9 runs, which makes her economy rate 2.25.

100th T20I wicket for Marizanne Kapp in a must-win game

As soon as Juairiya Ferdous went off guard, Marizanne Kapp completed the 100th T20I wicket landmark. The 36-year-old becomes just the second Proteas woman after Shabnim Ismail to reach 100 T20I wickets, adding yet another chapter to her incredible career.

After the slow start and losing wickets in crucial sections of the innings, Bangladesh managed to score only 117 runs in 20 overs in exchange for five batters. To win the match, SA will have to score 118 runs in their 20-over limit.

The pitch might have helped the South African women’s bowlers

Kapp’s teammate, Shabnim Ismail, stated that the surface was decent to bowl on as there was nice bounce on it. According to her, they could have gotten a few more wickets, but felt confident about what they had done so far to win the match.

“Pretty decent surface to bowl on. Nice carry. Would’ve been nice to get a few more wickets in the power play, but I think we did a decent job. After the previous game, we just worked on field placements. I don’t think the bowling was that bad.”

“For us, it’s about the execution and the planning. Pretty confident. We’ve not played our best as yet. Crucial for us just to get the win first and chase the total down,” Shabnim Ismail said at the innings break.
