Viacom18 bags BCCI digital and TV media rights for five years

Viacom18 has won the digital and TV media rights to India’s home games for the next five years, via an e-auction conducted by the BCCI on Thursday. Viacom18, who takes over the BCCI media rights from *Disney Star, already owns digital rights for the IPL, and both digital and TV rights for the WPL.
The BCCI has not yet disclosed the amount Viacom 18 will pay for the next cycle, running from 2023-27. Disney Star, which was earlier Star India, had retained the worldwide rights to India’s games for INR 6138 crore (then USD 944 million) for the period 2018-23.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted the news, saying “Indian cricket will continue to grow in both spaces”, while also thanking Disney Star for playing a “key role in making Indian cricket reach its fans across the globe”.
