TossEngland Women opt to bowl vs India Women

India called upon the services of top-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues, offspin-bowling allrounder Sneh Rana, and wristspinner Poonam Yadav for the second ODI against England at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton where the hosts put them into to bat as visting captain Mithali Raj called it wrong at the toss.
While India made three changes to their line-up from the first match, with Punam Raut, Pooja Vastrakar, and Ekta Bisht dropped, England, leading the multi-format, points-based seven-match series 4-2, fielded an unchanged XI. India eye a series-levelling win in the three-match ODI assignment, having suffered an eight-wicket drubbing in the opening match.

Conditions in Taunton are starkly different to Bristol, where overcast skies remained a feature through nearly the entirety of the first game. With the sun out and a slight breeze blowing, a high-scoring first-innings could be on the cards if India are able to overcome their propensity for chewing up too many dots, an issue that Raj had rued after the loss in the first match on Sunday. England’s four-pronged pace-bowling attack, led by Katherine Brunt and left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone will be key to the hosts limiting India to a chaseable total for a second straight game.

England: 1 Tammy Beaumont, 2 Lauren Winfield-Hill, 3 Heather Knight (capt), 4 Sophia Dunkley, 5 Natalie Sciver (vc), 6 Amy Jones (wk), 7 Sophie Ecclestone, 8 Sarah Glenn, 9 Katherine Brunt, 10 Kate Cross, 11 Anya Shrubsole

India: 1 Smriti Mandhana, 2 Shafali Verma, 3 Jemimah Rodrigues 4 Mithali Raj (capt), 5 Harmanpreet Kaur (vc), 6 Deepti Sharma, 7 Taniya Bhatia (wk), 8 Sneh Rana, 9 Shikha Pandey, 10 Jhulan Goswami, 11 Poonam Yadav
