New Zealand 605 for 6 (Williamson 166*, Latham 161) lead Bangladesh 234 all out (Tamim 126, Wagner 5-47) by 371 runs
New Zealand continued pummeling Bangladesh’s bowlers as they rose to 605 for 6 at lunch on the third day in Hamilton. Kane Williamson reached his 20th Test century, and in the process also became the fourth from his country to complete 6,000 runs. But the morning session was enlivened by Neil Wagner‘s big hitting.
The session ended when Mehidy Hasan, fast approaching Bangladesh’s most expensive bowling figures, had BJ Watling caught down the leg-side but the morning truly belonged to New Zealand.
Wagner began the day by blasting Khaled Ahmed for three sixes with the pull shot, apart from hammering six fours in his 35-ball 47. Khaled and Ebadat Hossain looked tired as they attempted a bouncer barrage. Khaled went for 31 in his morning spell of three overs while Ebadat took Wagner’s wicket in his 25th over, but only after going for several boundaries.
Williamson, who was involved in the 60-run quickfire stand with Wagner, reached his hundred with a single to fine-leg during Wagner’s carnage.
He only started playing his shots after Wagner’s dismissal, hitting Abu Jayed, who was steady on the second day, for three fours in his first over of the session. Mehidy Hasan also continued to have trouble finding any proper rhythm as Williamson and Watling found little trouble dealing with him or any other bowler.
Williamson’s second milestone of the morning came when he edged past short third-man to complete his 6,000 Test runs. He is the fastest from New Zealand with teammate Ross Taylor having held that record previously, making it in 145 innings. Williams has taken 126 innings.
