Toss Ireland chose to bat v Afghanistan

Ireland captain William Porterfield won the toss and opted to bat in the first ODI in Dehradun. Asghar Afghan, meanwhile, said that he was expecting dew later on and would have preferred to bowl first anyway.

Asghar said his side was looking at this five-match series as preparation for the World Cup. In a bunch of changes Afghanistan made from the third T20I, the biggest was the return of Mohammad Shahzad, while Hashmatullah Shahidi, Rahmat Shah, Gulbadin Naib and Dawlat Zadran were the other inclusions.

Ireland were boosted by the inclusion of Porterfield who said the team was looking to start afresh after a 3-0 drubbing in the T20I series.

While Afghanistan have had the upper hand in the T20Is, both teams have won ten ODIs each in the 20 times they have faced each other.
