Mehidy's seven-for gives Bangladesh 397-run lead

West Indies 111 (Hetmyer 39, Dowrich 37, Mehidy 7-58, Shakib 3-27) trail Bangladesh 508 (Mahmudullah 136, Shakib 80) by 397 runs

Mehidy Hasan ripped through West Indies with career-best figures of 7 for 58 on the third morning as the visitors were bowled out for 111, the lowest total against Bangladesh. Shakib Al Hasan took the other three wickets, including that of last man Shermon Lewis, who was trapped lbw for the third duck in the innings.

Mehidy took four of the five wickets to fall in the morning. The Hetmyer-Dowrich sixth-wicket partnership lasted 14 minutes on the third morning, with Mehidy’s caught-and-bowled dismissal of Hetmyer ending their 57-run stand. Hetmyer had made 39 off 53 balls with three fours and a six, which he hit off Mehidy’s first ball of the day.

Mehidy would then have to profusely thank Shadman Islam for his fifth wicket, as the silly mid-off held on to a stunning grab after Bishoo had timed it right into his lap. Kemar Roach was Mehidy’s sixth, caught at long-on after Shakib had dropped a caught-and-bowled chance in the previous over.

Shane Dowrich fell lbw to Mehidy for 37 off 75 balls, the review being upheld as the off-break was seen spinning back to hit top of the leg-stump. When Lewis was given out lbw, West Indies had lasted 12.4 overs in the morning.

During the second evening, West Indies lost half their side in the first 12 overs, and for the first time in Test history, all of them were bowled by spinners. Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell were both bowled by deliveries that went between their bat and pad.

Sunil Ambris’ ambitious drive met with air as he was bowled by Shakib, before Roston Chase missed the line of a Mehidy delivery. The offspinner then removed Shai Hope with one that shot right through the floor, reducing West Indies to 29 for 5.
