Scorecard and ball-by-ball details

Beth Mooney hit an unbeaten 86 off 56 balls as Australia retained the Women’s Ashes in emphatic style with a six-wicket victory in the first T20I at North Sydney Oval.

It gave them an 8-4 lead with just four points remaining up for grabs which means the best England can achieve is a tie over the three-format series with two T20s remaining.

England were set back significantly in the early stages as they slipped to 4 for 16 – with Ellyse Perry taking two wickets in two balls – and though Danni Wyatt’s maiden international fifty lifted them to 132 for 9 the target barely troubled Australia.

Mooney raced out of the blocks and ensured Australia were always well ahead of the required rate. England’s spinners chipped away at the middle order and when Perry fell for 1 they sensed a late chance to apply some pressure, but Mooney and captain Rachael Haynes quickly completed the job.
