Live scorecard and ball-by-ball details

With an eye on the possibility of dew under lights, Kane Williamson, the New Zealand captain, chose to bowl first in the decisive third ODI at Green Park. Virat Kohli, India’s captain, said he would have preferred to bowl too, but expected the pitch to remain good to bat on right through the match.

Both teams were unchanged, which meant no room in India’s bowling attack for local boy Kuldeep Yadav.

The chasing side has won both matches in the series so far, with New Zealand winning by six wickets in Mumbai and India prevailing by the same margin in Pune.

India: 1 Rohit Sharma, 2 Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Virat Kohli (capt), 4 Dinesh Karthik, 5 MS Dhoni (wk), 6 Kedar Jadhav, 7 Hardik Pandya, 8 Axar Patel, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Jasprit Bumrah, 11 Yuzvendra Chahal.

New Zealand: 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Colin Munro, 3 Kane Williamson (capt), 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Tom Latham (wk), 6 Henry Nicholls, 7 Colin de Grandhomme, 8 Mitchell Santner, 9 Adam Milne, 10 Tim Southee, 11 Trent Boult.
