Saifuddin earns maiden ODI call-up for Bangladesh

Bangladesh have included 20-year old Mohammad Saifuddin in their ODI squad for the three-match series against South Africa later this month. The pace-bowling allrounder who made his T20I debut in April was earmarked for the senior team after an impressive run in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup.

Saifuddin is one of three changes in the limited overs squad; Nasir Hossain earns a recall after missing out on the Champions Trophy, Bangladesh’s last ODI assignment. Also included is Liton Das who played the last of his nine ODIs in November 2015. They have replaced Mosaddek Hossain, Sunzamul Islam and Shafiul Islam.

Liton is in the Test squad currently and has caught the eye with his wicketkeeping but not so much with his batting. Nasir didn’t do too well in the Test series at home against Australia but since then has taken a five-wicket haul and scored a fifty in two first-class matches.

Mosaddek is recovering from an eye infection. Sunzamul had reported a similar complaint, but has begun playing first-class cricket again for Rajshahi. Shafiul hasn’t played an ODI since October last year although he was in Bangladesh’s Champions Trophy squad.

Bangladesh and South Africa play the ODI series from October 15 to 22.
