Ben Stokes returned to the Rising Pune Supergiant line-up as they chose to bowl against Gujarat Lions at the MCA Stadium. They made one other change in their seam attack, with Shardul Thakur replacing Deepak Chahar.

Lions made two changes as well, with Dwayne Smith returning to the side in place of Andrew Tye, who returned to Australia with a dislocated shoulder, and Pradeep Sangwan replacing fellow left-arm seamer Irfan Pathan.
