Sri Lanka’s stand-in captain Upul Tharanga, playing in his 200th ODI, decided to bat first against Bangladesh in a must-win second ODI in Dambulla.

The hosts rejigged their bowling attack by including Dilruwan Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara and Nuwan Pradeep in place of Lahiru Kumara, Lakshan Sandakan and Sachith Pathirana. Bangladesh went in with the same XI that won the first ODI by 90 runs.

Tharanga said the change in tactic, from bowling first to batting, was somewhat influenced by how the pitch behaved in the first game, where Bangladesh, after being sent in to bat, posted 324.

Bangladesh, currently ranked seventh in ODIs, have never beaten Sri Lanka in a bilateral ODI series before. They are just four points behind Sri Lanka, currently placed sixth.
