‘Time for DRS in T20s’ – Root

Eoin Morgan won an important toss and chose to bowl first in the third and final T20 against India in Bangalore, as England looked to bounce back from their disappointing finish to last week’s T20I in Nagpur and complete a tough tour with a rare piece of silverware.

Both captains announced one change each to the teams that took the field in Nagpur. Virat Kohli confirmed a debut for Rishabh Pant, the highly-rated 19-year-old batsman, who comes into the team in place of Manish Pandey, while for England, Liam Plunkett’s hit-the-deck seamers were preferred to Liam Dawson’s left-arm spin.

“It’s a high-scoring ground and good for chasing scores down,” said Morgan at the toss. “We want to do what’s been missing in this series and put in a complete performance. It’s a huge game, a big final at a ground like this, where there is no hiding place.”

While Kohli confirmed that he would have preferred to bowl first, he did believe that the lost toss could be a blessing in disguise. “It’s a dry wicket, like Nagpur,” he said. “It might break up in the second innings, so it’s the perfect time to bat first. All we have to do is bat well, because we want to try and win all three series’. That would be a great thing for the team.”

One other change was announced before the toss, after umpire C Shamsuddin withdrew from his on-field umpires after complaining of an illness. Shamsuddin had attracted England’s ire after giving two contentious decisions in the second T20I, in particular the key dismissal of Joe Root in the last over of England’s run-chase. He will instead perform the third-umpire duties, with Nitin Menon taking over in the middle.
