Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam saw out a wicketless first session as Pakistan took a big step towards saving the second Test in Hamilton. At lunch, they were 76 for 0, needing a further 293 runs to reach their target of 369.

With wickets in hand and the events of Sharjah, 2014, not too distant from their memories, particularly since Azhar scored an unbeaten hundred in Pakistan’s race to 302 in two sessions, a tilt at the target isn’t out of the question, given Pakistan are 1-0 down in the series, but still highly improbable.
