Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq chose to bat in the second Test against West Indies in Abu Dhabi. They made three changes to the XI from Dubai as Younis Khan came back after his illness, and fast bowlers Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz were rested. While Babar Azam made way for Younis, Rahat Ali and Zulfiqar Babar came into the XI which meant they would play an extra spinner, along with Yasir Shah and Mohammad Nawaz.

West Indies were forced to make one change as their wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich pulled up in training and was replaced by Shai Hope. Hope recently scored a half-century in each of the two warm-up matches before the Test series. Captain Jason Holder said he would have opted to bat too on a pitch he said looked drier than the one in Dubai.

Misbah said he expected the pitch to slow down with time and assist the spinners which is why he brought in Zulfiqar. He also said the team would feel more comfortable with the red ball as the pink ball had uncertainty about swing. Holder expressed similar sentiments and added they would have to step up while fielding since dropped catches cost them in the first innings in the first Test.

Pakistan had won the first match, the second day-night Test overall, by 56 runs in the last hour of the fifth day in Dubai.
