Pakistan and Bangladesh have had contrasting build-ups to their first match in the T20 World Cup. While Bangladesh have played continuously since the Asia Cup final against India in Mirpur on March 6, Pakistan were mostly confined to the nets.
Pakistan have lost their last two T20 internationals against Bangladesh. The Asia Cup defeat was the latest. Given Pakistan’s potential and ability, they can stun the best teams in the world on their day. And Bangladesh are aware. On paper, Shahid Afridi’s team will be favourites, no matter what the odds say.
Kolkata is a happy hunting ground for Pakistan. Afridi may not get crowd support in spite of his ‘India love’ comment. Given the fact that Kolkata’s next game will be the India versus Pakistan blockbuster on Saturday (March 19), Eden will surely back Bangladesh.
