De Villiers and Du Plessis in fine form for Proteas

AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis both struck half-centuries as South Africa prepared for their ICC World Twenty20 opener against England on Friday with a comfortable eight-wicket victory over a Mumbai XI in their final warm-up match.

Skipper Faf du Plessis appears to be in good touch ahead of South Africa's first ICC World Twenty20 match

The Proteas coasted to their victory target of 189 with three overs still in the bank after Du Plessis retired out with a 40-ball 65 and De Villiers blasted an unbeaten 52 off 23 deliveries that included four fours and three sixes.

Like against England yesterday, Mumbai XI were giving a helping hand as they were boosted by the inclusions of South Africa internationals JP Duminy, Farhaan Berhardien, David Wiese and Imran Tahir.

Duminy struck 22, Berhardien added only six and Wiese blasted an unbeaten 34 from 19 balls to lift Mumbai to 188 for four, but it was local opening batsman Akhil Herwadkar who stole the show with 61.

South Africa’s bowlers went round the park, Kagiso Rabada leaking 54 runs from four overs while Kyle Abbott conceded 52 from his full allocation.

The Proteas take on England, who play West Indies tomorrow, in their first Group 1 clash on Friday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
