Taylor extends stay at Derbyshire

Derbyshire have handed promising fast bowler Tom Taylor a one-year contract extension at the 3aaa County Ground.

The 21-year-old, who featured on the Potential England Performance Programme which toured South Africa this winter, has committed to the county until the end of 2017.

Taylor has claimed 43 wickets in 15 first-class matches with impressive career-best figures of 6-61.

Elite performance director Graeme Welch is pleased with the progress of Taylor, who also had a stint with the England one-day international squad in January, has made in his young career.

“Tom is an exciting talent who has already shown the ability to win games for Derbyshire – and we must remember he’s still only 21,” Welch said.

“He has already been recognised by England and he continues to make big strides, with both bat and ball.

“He now has a big summer ahead and we hope he can continue to contribute to winning games for the club.”

Taylor added: “I’m delighted to sign a new deal and commit to Derbyshire. We have an exciting squad and I hope I can continue to improve and play a leading role as we push for success.”
