Plunkett ruled out of Lions series

Liam Plunkett has been ruled out of the remaining two matches of England Lions’ one-day series against Pakistan A in Dubai, and will fly to South Africa on Wednesday to continue his rehabilitation with the fast bowlers on the Potential England Performance Programme in Potchefstroom.

Plunkett suffered a thigh injury in the Lions’ second warm-up match against a United Arab Emirates XI last week, and a scan yesterday revealed a partial muscle tear.

The Yorkshire all-rounder is expected to be fit to link up with England’s T20 squad before they begin preparing for the two-match series against South Africa in Cape Town on February 19 and Johannesburg two days later, having been selected as a replacement for Steven Finn.

It means the Lions have lost two of the six fast bowlers selected for the five-match one-day series against Pakistan A, following the departure last week of Jamie Overton with a foot injury. They currently lead the series 2-1, with the remaining games on Thursday and Saturday.

Liam Plunkett will miss the rest of England Lions' series against Pakistan A, but should be fit for England's T20 campaign in South Africa
