Fifties from Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips, along with a five-for from debutant Felix Murray lifted New Zealand Under-19s to their second successive victory, by three wickets over Pakistan Under-19s, in the tri-nation one-day tournament in Dubai.
Chasing 256, Phillips gave his team a flying start. His 68-ball 74 featured nine fours and four sixes, and his 99-run opening stand with Ravindra formed the base of a relatively smooth chase.
Ravindra was fourth man out for 77 off 105 balls in the 40th over, with 44 still required. Despite a late stutter, contributions from the middle order took New Zealand home with 14 balls to spare. Shadab Khan was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 51.
Earlier, it was Pakistan who suffered a collapse as they stumbled from 63 for 0 to 75 for 4. Left-arm spinner Murray who cut through the top order with four wickets in the space of eight balls, including three in an over – the 14th of the innings. Allrounder Josh Clarkson also contributed with two wickets. However, brisk fifties from Hasan Khan and Salman Fayyaz resurrected the innings. Then wicketkeeper Umair Masood (38) and Shadab (25) helped carry Pakistan to a total of 255 for 9 but it wasn’t enough.
