Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited successfully defended the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, as Misbah-ul-Haq‘s second fifty of the match powered the team to a six-wicket win in the final against United Bank Limited, in Karachi.

Set a target of 160 thanks to Bilawal Bhatti‘s eight-wicket burst on Tuesday, SNGPL, who lost three early wickets, rode on a 110-run partnership between Misbah and Azhar Ali to complete the chase inside 53 overs. The pair batted together for the majority of day five, with Azhar playing the more patient foil, stroking 56 off 124 balls, with seven fours. Azhar couldn’t quite see the chase through, getting caught behind off Ehsan Adil, but Misbah stayed unbeaten on 60 off 96 balls, to go with his 85 in the first innings. It was his 89th first-class fifty, and fourth in three matches for SNGPL since returning from the Bangladesh Premier League.

Bhatti, who ended with match figures of 11 for 95, was named the Man of the Match. Khan Research Laboratories seamer Mohammad Abbas finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 61 scalps from 10 matches, while Sui Southern Gas Corporation’s Asif Zakir topped the run charts, scoring 791 runs at an average of 56.50, with three tons and four half-centuries.

Last year, SNGPL had won the title by virtue of a first-innings lead against National Bank of Pakistan in the final.
