India A have called up Ashok Sharma as an injury replacement for Yudhvir Singh for the ongoing Tri-Nations Series in Sri Lanka. This comes hours after the Men in Blue suffered a Super Over defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka A in Dambulla on Monday, June 15.
Yudhvir has not featured for India A in the three matches of the one-day tri-series and will sadly not take part in the latter stages of the tournament.
Ashok, meanwhile, will fly to Sri Lanka in the early hours of Tuesday morning to join the rest of the squad. India A are due to play Afghanistan A in their last league game of the series on Wednesday, June 17, for which the fast bowler should be available for selection.
Ashok, who turns 24 tomorrow, has had some excellent months leading up to his India A call-up. The right-arm pace bowler ended the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as the tournament’s joint-highest wicket-taker with 22 scalps from 10 matches. He then represented the Gujarat Titans in the 2026 Indian Premier League, taking six wickets from as many matches. Throughout the tournament, he became renowned for his pace, consistently bowling at 150 kmph.
It is also worth mentioning that Ashok recently moved from Rajasthan to Gujarat ahead of the new Ranji Trophy season after receiving a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Rajasthan Cricket Association.
As things stand, the side led by Tilak Varma has suffered two defeats from three outings in the series. This includes a dramatic and controversial loss to Sri Lanka A, where they failed to chase down 17 in the Super Over under the darkness. India A desperately need a win against Afghanistan A to keep their hopes of qualifying for the finals alive.
Ashok’s GT teammate Arshad Khan is currently India A‘s joint-highest wicket-taker in the ongoing tri-series with four wickets to his name. The 28-year-old defended five runs off the last over against Sri Lanka A to take the game to a Super Over, where his team ultimately ended up on the losing side.
