Despite Chennai Super Kings’ disappointing performances over the past two Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons, the franchise is not expected to make any changes to its coaching leadership. Long-serving head coach Stephen Fleming is set to retain his position, continuing one of the most successful coaching tenures in IPL history.

Fleming has been associated with CSK since the franchise’s inaugural IPL season in 2008 and has served as head coach since 2009. According to Cricbuzz, the franchise management continues to place its trust in the New Zealander despite growing calls from sections of the fanbase for a change in direction following the team’s recent struggles.

CSK finished at the bottom of the table in the 2025 season and managed only an eighth-place finish in the recently concluded campaign. However, the franchise remains committed to Fleming, whose contract is renewed annually. Reports suggest that his deal will once again be extended, consistent with the arrangement followed over the years.

Fleming is currently in the United States overseeing CSK’s sister franchise, Texas Super Kings, in Major League Cricket (MLC), where he also serves as head coach. The Chennai-based franchise is expected to conduct a detailed review of its season in the coming weeks, with several key decisions likely to emerge from those discussions.

The decision to continue with Fleming further highlights the significant influence of MS Dhoni within the franchise. Dhoni and Fleming have shared a close professional relationship for nearly two decades, forming one of the most successful captain-coach partnerships in franchise cricket.

Meanwhile, CSK has reportedly received a few trade inquiries ahead of the next season, although there has been no approach involving Hardik Pandya. Speculation on Monday suggested that CSK and Delhi Capitals could explore a swap involving Khaleel Ahmed and David Miller, but both franchises have reportedly denied any such discussions.

At present, CSK’s official stance is that no player is available for trade. However, similar assurances were given before the franchise completed a deal involving Ravindra Jadeja last season. While no trade appears imminent, IPL transfer situations are known to evolve quickly as teams reassess their squads ahead of a new campaign.
