Rohit Sharma Out!! Why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi believes he can play 2027 World Cup

Young Team India batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi sent a strong message to the selection committee following his record-breaking knock against Sri Lanka A. After smashing 94 runs off just 29 balls in the tri-series final, the young batter used a post-match interview to remind everyone of his success in the 50-over format.

India A dominated Sri Lanka A in the final of the tri-series at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Sunday, June 21. Vaibhav’s explosive innings helped the team post a massive total of 377/9. The bowlers then completed the job by dismissing Sri Lanka A for 311 and sealing a convincing 66-run victory.

I’ve Played A Lot of 50-over Cricket – Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Most cricket fans associate Vaibhav Sooryavanshi with his explosive IPL performances. However, the young batter has plenty of experience in 50-over cricket. He has played 38 senior and youth one-day matches and is India’s highest run-scorer in Under-19 one-day cricket.

During a post-match interview, the presenter asked Vaibhav how he adapted to 50-over cricket after spending so much time in the T20 format. Vaibhav pointed out that he already had extensive experience in one-day cricket.

“Learnt a lot this series, but I’ve played a lot of 50-over cricket. Not sure people know about it.”

I Hadn’t Thought Of Anything – Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi narrowly missed his maiden List A century. The left-hander scored 94 off 29 balls at a strike rate of 324.13, smashing 10 fours and eight sixes. He also shared a blistering 132-run opening partnership with Priyansh Arya.

Speaking after the match, Vaibhav said that he kept his approach simple against Sri Lanka A. He revealed that discussions with the India A coaching staff helped him overcome the issues that troubled him earlier in the tournament.

“I hadn’t thought of anything. Just wanted to execute what I planned in the first ten overs and take it forward from there. No pressure. I wasn’t executing what I wanted earlier in the series. But after consulting with the coaches, I got it right. The challenge was to adapt to different conditions; it was nice to take it on.”

When Runs Were Not Coming… – Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Before the Tri-Nation A series final against Sri Lanka A, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had scored only 117 runs in four matches. India A coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar stepped in to help him before the final.

Speaking to Sportstar, Vaibhav revealed that he had detailed discussions with Kanitkar during the tournament. The coach encouraged him to trust his natural game and avoid overthinking, despite his poor run of scores.

“When runs were not coming, I sat down with Hrishi sir to discuss a few things, and he gave me a free hand to play freely. That’s when he told me, ‘Tu apna natural game khel, zyada soch mat’ (you play your natural game and don’t think too much about anything else). That motivated me, and I continued to back myself, and I’m happy that things worked out well.”

The youngster has already earned a call-up to India’s T20I squad. He will join the senior team ahead of the two-match T20I series against Ireland, which begins on June 26. The team management could be tempted to hand Sooryavanshi his international debut.
