Prithvi Shaw has gone through a lot of hardships in his career. Once considered a batting prodigy who scored a century on his Test debut, the right-handed batter has not played for India since 2021. Last season, he was dropped from the Mumbai squad for the Ranji Trophy due to fitness issues and later went unsold in the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) mega auction.

During his tough phases, the Mumbai cricketer received support from India’s Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant. The 25-year-old revealed the same during a recent interview.

“Rishabh Pant keeps on contacting me, whenever he feels something is wrong,” Shaw said while speaking to News24.

I have taken a lot of wrong decisions in life: Prithvi Shaw

The 25-year-old admitted that he has made a lot of wrong decisions in life, including giving less time to cricket. He said that there were distractions along the way. Shaw also revealed that he had made some wrong friends who took him away from the track.

“I have taken a lot of wrong decisions in life. I started giving less time to cricket. I used to practice a lot. For example, I used to bat for 3-4 hours in nets. I never got tired of batting. I used to go to the ground for half a day. I admit that there was a distraction,” Shaw said.

“After that, I started considering what was not necessary as necessary. I made some wrong friends. Because I was at the top at that time. Friendship is also formed. Then they took me here and there. All those things. Then I got away from the track. I used to give eight hours of practice on the ground. Now it is four hours,” he added.

Shaw has written to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to change his team ahead of the forthcoming domestic season. As per reports, he could be joining two-time Ranji Trophy champions Maharashtra.
