The India National Cricket Team cricketers Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep have been key faces in the domestic circuit and also in international cricket as well. The two Bihar-based cricketers play for Bengal at the Ranji Trophy level, and they have been a key part of the Bengal cricket team for years now, and also play a crucial role for the state side.

Now Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep have been awarded for their on-field contribution to the nation and the state. However, interestingly, the award is not being awarded by the state team they represent but from the state where their roots belong. As per reports, the Bihar Government has recommended the direct appointment of Mukesh Kumar & Akash Deep as DSP under the Sports Quota.

Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep to follow Siraj’s path

The two will be featured soon in police uniforms. The Bihar government has recommended the appointment of these two veteran cricketers for their outstanding achievements at the international and domestic levels. The proposal has been approved and forwarded to the Home Department for further official processing. Mukesh and Akash Deep have achieved this position after immense struggles.

Mukesh was born in Gopalganj, a small village in Bihar. He used to be quite impoverished. His father drove an auto-rickshaw in Kolkata. In 2012, he relocated to Kolkata at the direction of his father, who operated an auto there. After excelling for Bengal in domestic cricket, he was selected for the Indian squad in all three formats (Test, ODI, and T20I).

Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar impressed in respective formats

The veteran pacer made his first-class debut on 30 October in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy. His all-format international debut in the Caribbean Islands in 2023. He is also among the rare bunch of bowlers who got his maiden India call-up before playing a single IPL match. He had a sensational 2018-19 and 2019-2020 season for Bengal, picking 54 wickets in two seasons.

Akash Deep, who also had the same kind of struggle as his fellow teammate, but in a different way. Akash Deep’s family opposed him playing cricket, but he never stopped and continued to follow his dream. The pacer was born in Dehri, Bihar, and grew up in Kolkata, West Bengal. His father, Ramji Singh, was a government school teacher in Bihar’s Sasaram.

Bengal duo was crucial in 2019-20 Ranji season

Akash Deep partnered with Mukesh Kumar in the 2019-20 season, where the former picked 35 wickets in the season, and Bengal reached the final of the Ranji Trophy. For his impressive performances, he earned his maiden IPL call-up from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and he impressed in the India A matches against England Lions, after which he made his senior debut against England in 2024.

Mukesh Kumar has taken 7 wickets in 3 Test matches, 5 wickets in 6 ODIs, and 20 wickets in 17 T20Is. Akash Deep has played only in Test in 10 Test matches so far, boasting 28 wickets in 18 innings. Previously, among current Men’s cricketers, Mohammed Siraj was handed a DSP role by Hyderabad.
