India vs Pakistan: Mohsin Naqvi drags Asim Munir into T20 World Cup war, blames Bangladesh for boycott U-turn

Pakistan had denied playing against India in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup fixture on the 15th of February and refused to budge an inch despite the sanction warnings by the ICC. However, when BCB intervened and asked them to play the game against India, Pakistan had no options left but to play the India vs Pakistan game as per schedule.

Pakistan backed the Bangladesh team after the ICC ousted them from the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, following a desperate stand from the Bangladesh government to not travel to India, despite the security assurance from the ICC and the BCCI. Pakistan then came in support of the BCB, as they pleaded to swap venues to Sri Lanka.

Following this, Bangladesh were snubbed, and Pakistan, who were also in the boycott rally, announced that they would feature in the T20 World Cup but not play against India in the competition. This decision had large-scale repercussions, as a match between India and Pakistan was already scheduled in the tournament.

Mohsin Naqvi drags Asim Munir into the India vs Pakistan fiasco

Pakistan have been repeatedly in the news over the past few months as they have created a massive fiasco over their World Cup participation and the game against India. India vs Pakistan is not just a game of cricket between the two nations; it’s a rivalry that brings along people from the two nations with contrasting emotions every time these two meet.

They last met during the Asia Cup 2025, when India played against them three times in the competition and defeated them on all of those occasions. However, this time the match was scheduled on the 15th of February at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, which is a neutral venue for the two teams.

However, following Pakistan’s boycott of that game, the ICC had warned them of dire consequences, which might include financial sanctions and other bans that could be imposed on them. Claims have been made saying Pakistan considered backing off from their standpoint due to these threats from the ICC.

However, Mohsin Naqvi clearly states that they are not the ones to budge due to threats, and none of them are actually scared by threats. This is when he mentioned the Pakistan Field Marshall.

“We cannot be intimidated by threats. I am not someone who gets scared, neither is the Prime Minister. And you already know our Field Marshal. So forget about threats,” said Mohsin Naqvi.

Naqvi has also stated that they made a U-turn on the India clash boycott at the request from BCB.

“Bangladesh requested Pakistan to play the match against India. We stand with Bangladesh, and if they agree, we will support them in what they want us to do,” said the PCB Chief.

PCB made big demands

PCB made several demands to the ICC in order to reverse their stance on the India vs Pakistan game, as per reports.

Some of them included the renewal of bilaterals, an increase in revenue, and their due respect with Indian players resuming the handshakes that they denied during the Asia Cup matches.

This is known to all: the India vs Pakistan match generates huge revenue; hence, the game is not only important for the two teams but also their financiers, sponsors and the broadcasters of the competition.
