India to miss T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals! Mohammad Amir makes mad qualification claim

India’s perfect run at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 is facing serious doubts, thanks to the batters’ shocking struggle against the spinners. And now, ahead of the Super 8 round, former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has added misery to the defending champions’ concerns.

Mohammad Amir fires a warning to the Men in Blue

Mohammad Amir has boldly claimed that India may not even reach the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. The Men in Blue stormed into the Super 8 round of the tournament as an unbeaten side, winning all their group matches.

On paper, everything looks smooth, but the weakness of the batting lineup has already been exposed by teams like the USA, Namibia, and the Netherlands. Young opener Abhishek Sharma has struggled badly, falling for ducks in his first three matches.

Overall, India’s batting has looked unstable, and big teams like South Africa and the West Indies could exploit these weaknesses in the crucial next round to push them behind in the semifinals race.

Mohammad Amir predicts India’s early exit, picks South Africa and West Indies for Semis

On the ‘Haarna Mana Hai’ show, the host asked Mohammad Amir who he thinks will reach the semifinals from Group A of the Super 8s, and the former Pakistani pacer was clear about his choice. Amir picked “South Africa and the West Indies” as the likely teams to make it to the top 4 from that group.

When the host expressed his shock and asked why he felt India could not reach the semi-finals, Amir shook his head and made it clear that he doesn’t see the defending champions making it that far in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026.

Amir explained, “If you see their matches, the batting collapsed in all the games, barring the Pakistan contest. The pressure will rise in the Super 8 matches. The way in which South Africa and the West Indies have been playing, they can beat any team.”

Do-or-Die phase of the T20 World Cup 2026 set to begin on February 21

Meanwhile, the Men in Blue have a challenging schedule in the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2026. They will face South Africa in their first Super 8 match in Ahmedabad on Sunday, February 22. After that, they will move to Chennai to face Zimbabwe on Thursday, February 26.

Their last Super 8s game will see them facing the in-form and dangerous West Indies side at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 1. In this round, every match will be important, so the Men in Blue cannot afford any slip-ups, as it will only dent their chances for semifinal qualification.

The other Super 8s group is just as intense. Pakistan, New Zealand, England, and Sri Lanka will fight hard for two semi-final spots from Group B. Amir feels Pakistan and New Zealand have a strong chance to make it to the semifinals. The Super 8s round will begin on Saturday, February 21, with Pakistan taking on New Zealand in Colombo at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
