Blair’s cricket achievements were remarkable, but it was his incredible courage during New Zealand’s 1953 tour of South Africa that made him a legend in the game. His story remains one of the most emotional and inspiring ones in New Zealand cricket history.
During that tour, Blair suffered a heartbreaking tragedy when his fiancée was among the victims of a devastating train disaster in New Zealand. Blair was miles away when he heard the shocking news. Despite the immense grief, Blair showed extraordinary strength and continued with the tour.
