Diana Edulji demands Harmanpreet Kaur, Amol Muzumdar's sacking after India's T20 World Cup disaster

Former India captain Diana Edulji has called for the sacking of head coach Amol Muzumdar and captain Harmanpreet Kaur after the India women’s national cricket team failed to qualify for the semifinals of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England.

The India women’s national cricket team entered the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 with high hopes after winning the ODI World Cup last year at home. This led many to expect another memorable ICC campaign, but things did not go as planned.

Diana Edulji demands big changes after India’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 disaster under Harmanpreet Kaur

After the disappointing campaign, Diana Edulji has asked for major changes in the team. She feels the India women’s national cricket team needs fresh thinking, new leadership, and a different approach if the team wants to become a strong force in T20 cricket again.

Edulji believes that the team cannot use the same game plan in both ODI and T20 cricket. The former captain stressed that T20 cricket needs a different mindset. She also wants India to have different squads for ODIs and T20Is, as both formats need different players and strategies.

Diana Edulji was quoted as saying by RevSportz: “Yes, absolutely. I have said that before also. Definitely we need a change not only in the leadership but also in the support staff. I won’t particularly name anybody to take over; that’s for the selectors to decide. But definitely a change is required because ideas are now stagnated completely, and so we need fresh minds, fresh ideas, and a fresh outlook also.”

BCCI should not treat the women’s team with kid gloves anymore: Diana Edulji

She also questioned why the women’s team should continue with the same system when the men’s team has already separate leadership for different formats.

Edulji explained, “Don’t we have this split captaincy in the men’s team? We have Shubham Gill in Tests and 50 overs, and Shreyas (Iyer) is now there (as T20I captain). If we could take a call on Surya (Suryakumar Yadav) after winning the World Cup and dropping him, then why not here also? I think the BCCI should not treat the women’s team with kid gloves anymore.”

The former Indian captain slammed the team’s poor fielding in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, saying the players had no skills. She pointed out that dropped catches and poor fielding are not new, and she blamed the coaching staff for these mistakes.

Diana Edulji calls for urgent Centre of Excellence camp for fast bowlers

She called for at least a one-month camp on fitness and fielding and asked the players to come out of their comfort zone. Expressing concern over India’s fast-bowling department, the former captain suggested the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence organize a special camp for around 10 talented fast bowlers from across the country to help build a stronger pace attack.

Edulji signed off by saying, “I think the CoE (BCCI’s Centre of Excellence) should take over the pacers and make them fit because after Jhulan (Goswami), I don’t see anybody fitting the bill at all. Nandani Sharma was doing well in the WPL but hardly got any chances. One match you are in, one match you are out of. That doesn’t boost the confidence of a bowler. So, we must have a special camp only for the pacers, with about 10 pacers from all over the country.”
