The India National Cricket Team faces the Ireland National Cricket Team for the second and final T20I of the two-match T20I series. Lorcan Tucker’s young Ireland side defeated the reigning T20 World Champions in the first match by 34 runs at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Stormont, Belfast. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi denied India debut at the age of 15 years and 93 days.
He became/could have become the youngest cricketer to feature for the Men in Blue side. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been one of the most talked-about cricketers in the whole cricketing fraternity. From commentators to experts, every person has been discussing the enormous talent that Vaibhav produces at just 15 years old, which is simply unbelievable.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s recent form
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was phenomenal throughout the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 for the Rajasthan Royals (RR). The Southpaw had a grand second season in the rich cash league, where he finished as the leading run scorer, earning his first Orange Cap and breaking the record of becoming the youngest player to win the award. He finished off the season with 776 runs with a strike rate of over 220.
Vaibhav won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at the age of 15, making him the youngest to achieve the milestone. He nearly single-handedly carried the Royals to the playoff rounds. Ahead of the IPL, he also had a stellar performance in the U-19 World Cup, where in the final, he scored 175 runs against England. In this tournament, he also won the Player of the Tournament award.
Why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was added in India side?
After that, Vaibhav was added to the List A side, and following a poor start in the Tri-Series in Sri Lanka, he stepped up big for the India A National Cricket Team in the final, where he smacked 94 runs off 29 deliveries and completely took the game away from the host nation, Sri Lanka.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi got his maiden call-up to the India National Cricket Team for his exceptional performances in the IPL and U-19 cricket. He has been named in the 15-man squad for the T20I series in Ireland and then in England T20I teams, and also in the Asian Games 2026. Sooryavanshi’s wait for debut continues.
Two debutants for India, but still no Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Previously, Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak made it clear on the eve of the match that it would be unfair to “drop someone who has already been scoring runs just to give him an opportunity.” The Southpaw will have to wait for his debut as India will next travel to England for five T20I matches lined up.
However, for India, Suryansh Shedge and Prince Yadav make their debut for the Men in Blue, replacing Washington Sundar and Prasidh Krishna in the side. The latter two were horrific with the bat and ball, respectively. India won the toss and opted to field first. As Shreyas Iyer believes that it was a day off in the first T20I, and the team is looking to bounce back.
