Bangladesh's Australia triumph brings rich ICC rewards as four players climb rankings

The 2-1 ODI series win against Australia resulted in progress for multiple Bangladesh internationals in the latest ICC rankings for bowlers and batters in the One Day International format. The pacers of Bangladesh were on song against the Aussies throughout the ODI series.

According to the latest rankings of the ODI bowlers, pacers Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, and Taskin Ahmed all have taken long strides in their ranks. Shoriful has gained the most after his 6-fer in the third and final ODI of the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Australia.

Bangladesh claimed a commanding series win over Australia

On June 14, when Bangladesh and Australia faced each other in the third match at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, Shoriful Islam took 6 in his 10-over spell, for only 48 runs and a maiden. The other two seamers, Mustafizur and Taskin, got one each in the match.

After the conclusion of the 3-match ODI series, Shoriful climbed 10 spots to 18th on the updated rankings for ODI bowlers, while Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed are currently at 25th and 27th place, respectively. Mustafizur was the biggest gainer among the three Bangladeshi pacers as he jumped 12 steps to capture the 25th spot.

“Shoriful claimed a six-wicket haul in the series finale and was rewarded by climbing 10 spots to 18th on the updated rankings for ODI bowlers, while Rahman (up 12 places to equal 25th) and Taskin (up five rungs to 27th) also made ground following some decent efforts against the Aussies,” the International Cricket Council informed on their official website.

Towhid Hridoy makes notable progress in the rankings

Towhid Hridoy, a middle-order batter of the Bangladesh ODI team, was rewarded for his effective batting against Australia in the series. Hridoy scored a total of 154 runs in the ODI series, including an 83-run knock in the third ODI, which has taken him to 20th from 27th position of the ICC ODI batters rankings.

“Towhid Hridoy compiled 154 runs across the three-match series with a best innings of 83, and the right-hander was duly rewarded by gaining seven spots to move to 20th on the updated list for ODI batters,” the official update reads.

Who are at the top of the lists of the rankings?

Meanwhile, Mehidy Hasan Miraz is the only Bangladeshi bowler in the top 10 list of the ICC ODI bowlers’ rankings for now. Mehidy is currently ranked 8th with 604 points, over Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi. Afghanistan’s Rasidh Khan is top of the ODI bowlers’ rankings with 696 points. From India, there is Kuldeep Yadav, who is ranked seventh with 618 points.

In the ODI batters rankings, there is one other from the Tiger brigade to join Towhid Hridoy in the top 20. New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell is top of the rankings with 815 points, and with 783 runs, Virat Kohli is at number two. Including Virat, there are a total of four Indian batters in the top 10 of the ODI batters rankings.
