The retirement of Kane Williamson was massive for New Zealand, and for the entire cricket world, as it officially ends the era of ‘fav four’- Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Williamson. Multiple cricketers grew up watching and idolizing Kane Williamson, as he was one of the finest cricketers in modern cricket.
It was an emotional moment for Rachin Ravindra when Williamson informed him about his decision to hand in his boots. In a recent video of Talksport Cricket, Ravindra expressed his emotions were flowing within his heart when he came to know about the retirement of the cricketer whom he admired the most.
Yeah, it was quite emotional: Rachin Ravindra
The top order batter of the New Zealand cricket team says that they just gathered at the dressing room and Kane Williamson informed them about his final decision on taking retirement. Rachin Ravindra felt so emotional that he was about to cry.
Even when he was describing the moment, his expressions were louder than the words. For Ravindra, Kane Williamson was a trailblazer and the maverick for them for a long period of time.
“Yeah, it was quite emotional, I think, and we sort of just gathered, literally just gathered in the team room, and then he told us, and it was quite emotional. I don’t know, I sort of felt like I was going to cry, but it’s not even about me, you know. It’s just because he’s been the trailblazer, you want to say, the maverick for us for such a long period of time, and he’s done it since 2010,” the batting all-rounder said.
Ravindra is happy as Kane Williamson has achieved a lot in his career
Ravindra mentioned Ross Taylor as well, another legend of New Zealand cricket, who served the team for a long time across the format. For the 26-year-old, Taylor Williamson, they are the heroes to them since their childhood days.
“And me, literally throughout my teenage years, I was watching him. He was, you know, the batsman to be, and he and Ross Taylor, really. So, it was certainly, I guess, emotional, I guess,” he added.
Kane Williamson retired as one of the most celebrated cricketers in modern cricket across the top cricket-playing nations, which is a massive achievement for him on an individual basis. Rachin Ravindra firmly believes the legacy Williamson left behind will be celebrated for years ahead.
“And I’m obviously very happy for Kane and the timing of his decision. He saw that guy goes under the radar, right, and so humble, and for all that he’s achieved. And he’s done it in his way, which is cool to see, and I’m sure his career will be celebrated for many, many years,” Rachin Ravindra stated.
😅 “It was quiet emotional. I felt like I was going to cry & it’s not even about me.”
👏 “He’s been the trailblazer. Throughout my teenage years, he was the batter to be.”

Williamson ended his career only a few away from 10,000 Test runs
Williamson retired at the age of 35, after playing 110 Test matches for the nation. In hundred and ten matches and 195 innings, the right-handed batter gathered 9,515 runs with an average of 54.06. The thirty-three centuries and thirty-eight half-centuries are proof of the grit, composure, temperament, and skills he displayed for years with the Blackcaps.
