The first mini-victory in the maiden ODI between Scotland and Zimbabwe was achieved by home captain Kyle Coetzer, who chose to bat first after his opposite number Graeme Cremer called incorrectly at the toss. A slight drizzle was falling before the toss and the covers were brought on not long after the captains left the middle with rain expected on and off throughout the day.
Scotland made one change from their line-up used against Namibia for two WCL Championship matches earlier in the week, but not one many were expecting. Mark Watt was expected to make way on a ground that has not offered much turn in recent matches bat rather than George Munsey coming in Scotland have opted for offspinning allrounder Michael Leask, whose last ODI for Scotland came almost a year ago against UAE.
Zimbabwe have opted for an extra batsman, bringing back Sikandar Raza and Hamilton Masakadza into the line-up from their series-ending loss to Afghanistan in February. Masakadza replaces Tarisai Musakanda in the top order while Raza is slotted to come in at No. 7 with Chris Mpofu, their leading wicket-taker from the five-match series against Afghanistan, left out of the XI.
