Somerset have announced that Scotland international Michael Leask has recently joined the club.

The Aberdeen-born 25-year-old, part of Scotland’s ICC World Twenty20 squad, has played 10 one-day internationals and 12 T20s for his country.

“A young, off-spinning batsman,” Somerset director of cricket Matthew Maynard said. “A good striker of the ball, a low-order batsman. A good little cricketer, feisty, and quite a strong character.

“It will be interesting to see if he can put pressure on the first-team bowlers this year because I primarily see this year as a learning curve for him in the second XI, but the opportunity is there.

“As soon as you are on the staff, you are playing a part. We saw that with Adam Hose last year. There is always an avenue there for the guys that are doing well.”
