Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl in the first Test against West Indies. On an overcast morning at Sabina Park in Jamaica, Pakistan’s captain Misbah-ul-Haq – playing his last international series – decided to put the hosts in to bat.

Right-arm fast bowler Mohammad Abbas was selected for his debut for the visitors, while legspinner Shadab Khan, who so excited during the limited-overs contests, was left out.

For West Indies, there were two new faces as Shimron Hetmyer and Vishaul Singh won debuts after impressing in the tour game earlier this week. Kieran Powell has returned to open the batting after a three-year absence from the Test outfit, while Miguel Cummins was left out, meaning Alzarri Joseph will likely partner Shannon Gabriel to open the bowling.

Pakistan have never won a Test series in the West Indies, and are on a six-Test losing streak stretching back to the sides’ third Test in Sharjah in November.
