BBL recognition for England trio

England internationals Adil Rashid and Charlotte Edwards were both voted as the second best players in the men and women’s Big Bash League respectively while Heather Knight was third.

Yorkshire leg-spinner Rashid won 17 votes, five behind big-hitting Brisbane Heat batsman Chris Lynn, following his excellent performances for Adelaide Strikers under the stewardship of county first-team coach Jason Gillespie.

Rashid, with an economy rate of 6.51, took 16 wickets at an average of 14.12 during the Strikers’ run to the semi-finals.

Rashid’s performances saw him named in the team of the tournament alongside fellow Englishman Luke Wright.

Perth Scorcher Edwards finished five votes behind Melbourne Stars’ Meg Lanning in second, and three ahead of Hobart Hurricanes skipper Knight, after the pair helped their franchises to the last four.

England skipper Edwards was second in the run-charts with 462 at 42, behind only Lanning’s tally of 560, while her international vice-captain Knight struck 363 runs and also weighed in with 17 wickets at 16.29 with her off-spin.

Both Edwards and Knight were also named in the WBBL team of the tournament.

Fellow England international Danielle Wyatt was voted ninth after compiling 249 runs and taking 14 wickets for Melbourne Renegades.
