Dawid Malan continued his prolific white-ball winter for England Lions by stroking a century to set up a second consecutive victory in the 50-over series against Pakistan A in Dubai.
The Middlesex opener was the top-scorer for the Lions in their Twenty20 series win before Christmas with 253 in five innings, and followed 41 in the first 50-over match on Wednesday with 114 from 109 balls as they pulled 2-0 ahead in the five-match series with a comfortable 69-run win.
Malan shared stands of 50 with James Vince, 70 with Sam Billings and 69 with Liam Dawson after the Lions had been put into bat, before holing out to deep midwicket, after hitting 12 fours and two sixes.
Worcestershire’s Ross Whiteley and Joe Clarke then teamed up in an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 66 in only 31 balls to fire the Lions to an imposing total of 314 for five.
Whiteley reached a 30-ball half-century from the last ball of the innings and Clarke launched three sixes in an unbeaten 25 from only 13 deliveries.
Malan’s Middlesex team-mate Toby Roland-Jones, who was called into the Lions squad for the second half of the tour, also impressed as Pakistan A were all out for 245 in the 45th over.
Roland-Jones took one wicket with the new ball and returned to claim two more in an excellent spell which built pressure at a crucial stage of Pakistan’s reply, ending with 3-48 from his 10 overs.
Dawson, another who made a big impression in the T20 series, also took three wickets with his tidy left-arm spin, and Billings contributed a run out with a direct-hit from behind the stumps as well as catching Mohammad Nawaz off Tom Curran.
The Lions will now aim to seal the series in the third match on Monday.
