England internationals Charlotte Edwards and Katherine Brunt’s Perth Scorchers missed out on a place in the Women’s Big Bash League final after they were narrowly beaten by Sydney Thunder.
Played at the Adelaide Oval ahead of the men’s BBL last-four clash between Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder, the Scorchers were unable to chase 119 for victory.
Edwards and Brunt tried their best with the bat, both making 18, but the Scorchers were restricted to 110 for nine.
Brunt had returned 1-24 from four overs, dismissing dangerwoman Stafanie Taylor for 24, to help limit the Thunder, who finished top of the 14-game table, to 118 for six after they won the toss.
Former England player Nicky Shaw was wicketless in her three-over spell.
The Thunder will face the winner of tomorrow’s semi-final between Heather Knight’s Hobart Hurricanes and Laura Marsh’s Sydney Sixers.
