Toss New Zealand chose to bat v Australia
Live scorecard and ball-by-ball details
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to bat first in the final Chappell-Hadlee match in Hamilton, a must-win game for both teams with the trophy on the line.
The hosts need a victory to secure a 2-0 series result and regain the trophy, and they made only one change to their XI, including Dean Brownlie for the injured opener Martin Guptill. They resisted the temptation to bring in legspinner Ish Sodhi on the ground at which he troubled Australia in the corresponding game last year.
Australia, on the other hand, did bring in their legspinner, with Adam Zampa replacing the young batsman Sam Heazlett in the only change to their XI. Australia hold the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy but must win in Hamilton to escape with a 1-1 series draw and thus retain the trophy.
The match was due to start in sunny conditions on a hard pitch that was expected to be good for batting.
