A gruesome morning for Bangladesh was highlighted by Mushfiqur Rahim being taken off the field in an ambulance after being struck on the helmet by a bouncer from Tim Southee. The fact that he was batting in the first place was remarkable considering he had injured his hand while making 159 in the first innings.
Mushfiqur played out 53 balls, an innings of pure gumption, an innings his team needed desperately. Bangladesh got through to lunch with a lead of 193 with Sabbir Rahman batting on 40 not out alongside No. 10 Kamrul Islam Rabbi. Opener Imrul Kayes, who had retired hurt suffering an injury to his upper left thigh yesterday, was seen limping out with his pads on and could possibly have to resume his innings as the visitors fight hard to secure a draw.
At the match stood, there were 66 overs left to be bowled in an extended day’s play to make up for the time lost to rain in the first day.
