Australia’s captain Steven Smith won the toss and chose to bat against Pakistan in the second ODI at the MCG.

Chris Lynn was out of the Australian XI due to a neck injury, according to a Cricket Australia tweet. He was replaced by Usman Khawaja, while Josh Hazlewood returned in place of Billy Stanlake, who was only able to bowl three overs at the Gabba on Friday.

Pakistan were led by Mohammad Hafeez in the absence of the injured Azhar Ali, with Asad Shafiq, Shoaib Malik and Junaid Khan coming into the team. Wahab Riaz and left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz were the other omissions.

It was a fine, warm day in Melbourne and the pitch appeared hard and flat with minimal grass to assist the bowlers.
