Zimbabwe captain Graeme Cremer won the toss and opted to bat against West Indies on a chilly morning. The hosts made two changes with Chris Mpofu replacing the injured Tinashe Panyangara, and left-arm spinner Tendai Chisoro coming in for fast bowler Carl Mumba.

Chisoro was among the leading wicket-takers against Afghanistan at Queens last year. He had collected nine wickets in five matches at an average of 17.22. West Indies, on the other hand, named an unchanged XI from their bonus-point win against Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

The surface in Bulawayo was damp, and had been under covers because of overnight rain. Overcast conditions also hinted at early movement, and West Indies captain Jason Holder hoped to exploit that with the new ball.

With both Sri Lanka and West Indies gaining bonus points from their opening wins, the pressure is on Zimbabwe to stop the tri-series from becoming a two-horse race.
