South Africa have named Laura Wolvaardt as the new captain of their senior women’s team. Wolvaardt, 24, has for now been appointed for just under two months, for the tour of Pakistan and the home series against New Zealand, which ends on October 15.
Wolvaardt’s appointment comes barely a week after Sune Luus had stepped down from the post last week and also because of the unavailability of Chloe Tryon, the vice-captain, for the Pakistan series.
South Africa’s next assignment is a white-ball tour of Pakistan starting September 1, for three T20Is and as many ODIs. South Africa will then host New Zealand for three ODIs and five T20Is.
A CSA release said Wolvaardt’s position will be reviewed following the conclusion of the New Zealand tour.
