Lions bowl, Stoinis makes IPL debut

Gujarat Lions captain Suresh Raina chose to bowl in the franchise’s first IPL game against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali. “It always does a little bit early on here, and we have good swing bowlers – [Pradeep] Sangwan is there, Praveen Kumar is there,” Raina said.

David Miller, leading Kings XI for the first time, brought debutant Marcus Stoinis into the playing side with Shaun Marsh hospitalised due to food poisoning. Kings XI also included two spinners in Axar Patel and legspinning debutant Pardeep Sahu.

Dwayne Bravo, James Faulkner, Brendon McCullum and Aaron Finch filled the overseas slots for the new franchise. Legspinner Sarabjit Ladda, who played eight games for Rajasthan Royals, and India U-19 captain Ishan Kishan were also included.
